The Department has announced more than $30 million in grants that will support fair housing education, outreach, testing, and enforcement activities.

New Departmental grants will support crime prevention, the installation of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and fire alarms in 56 communities, enhancing safety and security for public housing residents.

As part of the Biden Administration’s strategy to counter antisemitism, HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity has joined seven other federal agencies to issue fact sheets on Title VI protections.

In a new report, the National Association of Realtors revealed what a government shutdown would mean for the real estate industry, including the closing of some federal housing, mortgage, and other programs nationwide.

The semi-annual Legal League Fall Servicer Summit was held as part of the Five Star Conference & Expo in Dallas, as the industry's foremost experts discussed the latest compliance issues facing the industry.

“No one who has bravely served our country should struggle to secure and maintain housing," said Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. "HUD is taking an important step toward helping improve the quality of life for Native American Veterans."

“Mortgage applications decreased for the seventh time in eight weeks, reaching the lowest level since 1996,” said Joel Kan, MBA’s VP and Deputy Chief Economist. “Last week’s decline was driven by a 5% drop in refinance applications, to the weakest reading since January 2023.”

Through issuance of updates to its Housing Counseling Program Handbook, HUD will provide participants with the latest guidance to assist consumers with their housing needs, including enhanced guidance on HECMs.
