HUD’s latest investment will boost access to housing vouchers for families by addressing barriers to equitable housing solutions in seven markets nationwide.

New action by the Department will broaden housing and neighborhood choices for more than 800,000 total households by giving families more choices and supporting more inclusive communities. Here’s why HUD Sec. Marcia Fudge said this action “helps realize a dream that has been deferred for too long.”

New Departmental grants will support crime prevention, the installation of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and fire alarms in 56 communities, enhancing safety and security for public housing residents.

"Housing choice vouchers are some of the strongest tools we have to help families find stable and affordable housing," said U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. "This year, HUD found that rents rose once again, accentuating the strain on costs for American families.”
